On June 16, 2015 PAYSPI (Pennsylvania Youth Suicide Prevention Initiative) and PAOASPC (Pennsylvania Adult/Older Adult Suicide Prevention Coalition) teamed up with the Philadelphia Phillies to raise awareness for suicide prevention. Representatives from OMHSAS (Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services) were also present. The Phillies provided us along with the perfect space to display suicide prevention resources, where we were joined by local and national organizations; Minding Your Mind, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Aevidum, and Delaware County Suicide Prevention Task Force. We handed out wristbands, Lifeline cards, and other relevant material. Many attendees stopped at the table to gain information or to connect with a representative.
Many of the winners of the PSA contest attended the Phillies game as the guests of honor! The winners that attended were Julissa Molina, Taryn Abreu, Morgan McNally, Jordan Kreisher, Dylan Zellner, and Hannah Salazar. Hannah (featured at right) threw out the first pitch; a once in a life time experience. All winners present got a full tour of Citizen’s Bank Park!
The winners and representatives from PAYSPI were present during batting practice and had an opportunity to see the stadium from the point of view of the announcers in the broadcasters loft. After touring the Diamond Club and seeing artifacts from the original Veteran’s Stadium, they ended their tour in the Media Room where the post-game interviews are held and had a chance to spend some personal time with the Phillie Phantic himself! After the tour, the winners sat just behind the dugout to watch the Phillies take on the Baltimore Orioles in their brand new Phillies hats!
During the game, the Phillies showed the 60 second winning video created by Hannah Salazar on the Jumbotron for the crowd of over 22,000. Apart from Hannah’s video, a PSA from Cocalico High School’s Aveidum chapter was showen, which featured two baseball players advocating for attendees to connect with the Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
The night was a home run! Thanks to the Philadelphia Phillies for helping us honor the winners.

It was a great night! All of the winning submissions were shown on the jumbotron in front of the crowd of over 5,000.
Prior to the game, Matt Wintersteen (PAYSPI), and Govan Martin (PAOASPC) participated in an interview, which was also displayed on the jumbotron. Following the interview, Matt Wintersteen threw out the first pitch.
